Member Pianist: Molly Vivian Huang
Topic: Master Classes

Molly Vivian Huang was born of Chinese parents in Manila and completed her early musical training in Germany. That was followed by further studies at the Curtis Institute with the legendary Miecyslav Horszowski. She has had an international performing career, appearing as a soloist with numerous orchestras.

She is known for her distinguished artistry, musical sensitivity and technically impeccable interpretations. A solo recital given in Switzerland elicited raves from the Swiss Daily for her" inspired pianism". Another performance review took notice of her "delicate touch", adding that " She plays with extreme clarity and coloration."

As an active chamber musician, Molly  Vivian has performed and collaborated with members of Bargemusic Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, Caramoor Virtuosi, among others. She frequently hosts concerts with musician friends in her " Molly  Vivian and Friends" Series.

She has made CD recordings and made TV and radio appearances. A passionate educator at heart, Molly Vivian often combines master classes with here engagements. She teaches privately, adjudicates and presents lecture-performances for organizations including  MTNA, Piano Teachers Congress of NY, Five Towns College, Suffolk Piano Teachers Forum and APTLI.

Guest Speaker Tamara Slobodkin
Topic: "Memorization at the Onset of Learning Pieces"

Tamara Slobodkin is a piano teacher, coach and chamber musician. She started studying piano at age 8 and know she had found her life's work. She continued her studies even while raising 3 children. In 1969 she moved to stony brook and soon became the keyboardist with the Paumonok Ensemble. She was a founding member of the North Shore Pro Musica Chamber Ensemble and Performed with them for 16 years.
Tamara become interested in the work of Dorothy Taubman in 1982. She attended her Institute for 3 years and became a Teaching Assistant from 1985 to Her independent studio is devoted to teaching the piano in accordance with Taubman's principles of pain-free technique to express musical creativity.
Since 1999 and after leaving the Paumonok Ensemble, Tamara added several activities to her schedule: adjudicator for MTNA and National Guild; literature consultant for Suffolk Piano Teachers Forum, Alfred and Harris Music; workshop presenter. Certified as a teacher and as a judge by ACM and MTNA, she has participated for several years in Musiclink program a MTNA scholarship program for students of musical potential but limited means.
